ELD English:

ELD English is a year-long English class for beginning English learners, students whose first language was not or is not English. The purpose of this class is to support students in building language and academic skills that will help them be successful in their course work. This class covers the mechanics of the English language, such as sentence structure, verb tense, and parts of speech. Students will do weekly vocabulary related to their academic classes such as science, math, and social studies. There is a heavy focus on writing for a variety of purposes, paragraph structure and MLA citation. Students will have an opportunity to present to their classmates and work collaboratively on writing and presentation pieces. Students will read extensively and they will develop skills in all four language domains (speaking, listening, reading, and writing).
